Beetle kill adds complexity, danger to Western fire season
Posted on Monday, June 29, 2009Montana State Forester Bob Harrington and NASF Fire Director Dan Smith are quoted in a recent New York Times article about the millions of acres of dead trees in the West that could contribute to a more dangerous fire season. States' budgetary challenges this year could add to the danger. “There’s a potential for substantial reductions in capacity in many states,” said Smith.
