Personnel Update: new State Foresters

Christopher Martin was named State Forester/Director of Forestry for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), effective May 9, assuming the position formerly held by Don Smith. Martin previously served as a senior planner for forest and water resource management for the state of Maine Forest Service.

Cara Boucher has been appointed as Michigan's Acting State Forester, after the departure of Donna LaCourt.

Tom Boggus, a 28-year career executive with the Texas Forest Service, was named interim director of the agency, effective June 1. Boggus succeeds James Hull, who is retiring at the end of the month after leading the Texas Forest Service for the last 12 years.

Larry Biles has been named the State Forester of Kansas, effective August 13, 2008. He leaves his current position as Director of the Southern Forest Research Partnership, Inc., based in Athens, Georgia, to follow Ray Aslin who retires July 1 after nearly 20 years in the position.
