The full time Forestry Manager oversees the full administration of Lykes Bros. Inc. Forestry Division located in various central Florida counties including Highlands, Glades, Okeechobee, and Hendry. The forestry division timber includes both pine and eucalyptus. LBI currently manages 11,000 acres of eucalyptus, making us one of the largest producers in the continental United States. Our goal is to produce a fast growing tree which is suitable to the South Florida climate. We also manage more than 52,000 acres of both native and planted pine. Our pine plantations consist of several varieties including South and North Florida Slash, Longleaf and Sand pine. Our native pine stands are pristine areas which are almost exclusively managed for habitat conservation.
The Forestry Manager will perform various functions to meet forest management plan objectives which include: developing planting agendas, choosing timber species, overseeing tract harvest selections, establishing harvesting schedules, implementing timber sale contracts, supervision and training of forestry division technicians, and interaction with other LBI managers, vendors, contract labor suppliers, and others. Strong financial reporting, budget development and strategic planning skills are needed. Knowledge of state and federal regulations needed as well as awareness of legislative processes.
