The U.S. forest products manufacturing and forestry subsectors industry has declined drastically over the last two decades. Yet, despite the dramatic decreases in mills, jobs and public land management; shifting land ownerships; soaring imports; and persistent recession since 2008, the U.S. remains the world’s largest producer of industrial timber and second largest exporter, after Canada.
This paper examines the various issues surrounding forest markets.
