NASF joined more than 530 farm, conservation, energy and rural organizations this week to urge House Speaker John Boehner to bring the five-year farm bill back to the House floor when Congress returns after its Fourth of July break.
"It is vital for the House to try once again to bring together a broad coalition of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to provide certainty for farmers, rural America, the environment and our economy in general and pass a five-year farm bill upon returning in July," the letter stated.
The $939 billion legislation would have reauthorized conservation initiatives and forestry programs, as well as farm subsidies, crop insurance and rural energy assistance programs.
