Ken Pimlott has been appointed director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). He has served in multiple resource management and fire protection positions with the department since 1993 and has served as acting director since 2010.
Effective May 15, Cecilia Clavet has joined NAASF as the new Policy Analyst. Clavet comes from the Wilderness Society where she partnered with state foresters on many forestry-related issues, including passage of the FLAME Act.
Peter Church has been appointed director of forest stewardship at the Department of Conservation and Recreation. This new position replaces the Chief Forester and will serve as the NASF member for Massachusetts.
The South Carolina Timber Producers Association has selected State Forester Gene Kodama to receive its President's Award. Mr. Kodama, who is the agency head of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, was recognized by the Association for "outstanding support for SCTBA and commitment to the sustainable forestry industry in South Carolina." Effecitve March 14, Doug Denico will serve as the new State Forester of Maine. Doug recently served as President of the Maine Forest Products Council. He succeeds Alec Giffen, who led the Maine Forest Service for seven years.
Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry recently chose George Geissler to serve as the Oklahoma State Forester and Director of Forestry Services.
Maryland State Forester Steven W. Koehn was elected last week to the independent Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc. (SFI) Board of Directors. The 18-member multi-disciplinary SFI board includes representatives of environmental, professional and academic groups, independent loggers, family forest landowners, public officials, labor and the forest products sector.
